edit: I wasn't aware that Pence had to be impeached and can't be fired, and that a new VP would have to be affirmed by the Senate. However, could the insurrection act offer a shortcut to that process in extremis?

I'm pretty sure Trump doesn't have the legal standings to chose his new vp. I think he would be stuck with Pelosi if he got rid of Pence.

Nixon chose Gerald Ford when Spiro Agnew stepped down sometime in the 70s.

Of course Spiro Agnew voluntarily resigned because of some legal troubles. Wasn't fired.
