edit: I wasn't aware that Pence had to be impeached and can't be fired, and that a new VP would have to be affirmed by the Senate. However, could the insurrection act offer a shortcut to that process in extremis?

I agree this was a turning point when Trump didn't use this opportunity to support his base, instead telling them to go home. There are no legal or by the book remedies left and Trump makes it clear he won't cross that line, which is the greatest weakness of republicans.
