As I watch the twisted narrative, the one that's always been there of Trump supporters as some sort of violent mob, I also watched hours of actual video in real time.
I did not see a violent mob. I saw really what was a jubilant act of going into the capitol. I saw repeated calls to be respectful to police and not only did I see no acts of violence directed towards police, I rarely even heard a harsh word. What I saw was akin to fans storming a football field, nothing violent, remember when they used to tear down goal posts? That's the sort of thing I was witnessing, no one was being targeted.
That is with one exception of course. The unarmed Trump supporter gunned down needlessly. There she was wearing her Trump flag like a cape, in some ways reminding me of a kid having fun. She was no threat to anyone, but she was still gunned down.
That moment in many ways reflects Trump supporters in relation to how the rest of America views us and has treated us. How dare we trespass in the capitol, violence is a suitable response in their minds. No one was going to get hurt, until they decided to hurt someone...
Their elitist outrage and false piety was nauseating as is their failure to take any responsibility for the decay, corruption, and mistrust of the country's institutions - institutions that they themselves bastardized and corrupted.
This is so sad....
