The socialist era flag had a socialist drawing in the center, so revolutionaries cut that out to signal the end of the communist rule (https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/7f/Flag_of_Romania_%281965-1989%29.svg) I’m extremely proud that the only foreign flag flown at the DC rally was Romanian.
