They may just keep him locked up and muzzled and do things in his name via the written word in order to bypass the issue. Actually I think it's their best move. It's their best bet at dividing the loyalty of the military.
Then if/when Trump starts making arrests they can cry for help to the UN (China).
A divided military would benefit a Chinese invasion force.
