I've been living degoogled, free of spyware, and off of big tech for years now. I'd be willing to compile a multi-level guide on how to cut out as much of the big tech spyware from your lives as possible.

I’m an older pede. When I say I’m still stuck in an analog world, I mean that literally. I would really appreciate it
Lol! Me too! I don't even know how to post content I find elsewhere
Omg! Me too
I'm blazing through a basic-level guide right now, which will mostly involve removing and replacing apps and services.
I would also appreciate your guide, I too was born when the Beatles were still putting out records.
just posted the first one, hope this helps! https://thedonald.win/p/11RhFaFj1R/
I'm especially looking for feedback from less tech saavy people -- I want this to be clear and easy for you, since you're the type of person this first set of articles will be written for.
That's a great guide. Thx!!
Degoogled android phone Pi Hole ad blocker Linux PC LBRY - Youtube Alternative Mastodon - Twitter Alternative Synology NAS hosting chat app, photo/file storage All implemented over the last year basically. Freedom and privacy feels good man.
I'm going to be starting on it right now, with a "phase 1" of things people can do immediately and easily.
please do, I am still on gmail and I just do not know how to get off hangouts/messenger as everyone I know uses it :-(
I moved to Proton Mail. That's a start.
And proton vpn
Post it please pede. Maybe taking the country back starts with reducing the influence of those who can be bought.
Go
Please. Also please include a dumbed down version for those who aren't as tech savvy. For example I would love to know how to degoogle an android phone but I have no idea where to start.
Btw, one super obvious way to reclaim your privacy is to use cash as much as possible. I am sure most are already doing this but I have decided to redouble my efforts this year.
I'm going to do it in three phases: Step 1 is simply replacing software or cutting services. Step 2 is more complex software shenanigans (like replacing the play store with fdroid and aurora, using a VPN, or switching to Linux). Step 3 is full balls-to-the-wall tech, including running a nextcloud instance and setting up a pihole.
Awesome! We eagerly await your instructions.
Thats difficult for me - most places have 'no cash' signs.
There is one chain store I go to that is trying to convince customers not to use cash. Claims there is a Covid related shortage. That's when my BS detector went off and reminded me to use it more.
Please share
oh man - please. I am in knots trying to get off big tech.
I am doing this myself currently! Sort of as a 2021 resolution.
Working on deciding on an open source Android version that is de-googlaged. I am really looking at E OS. Any other recommendations?
Lineage is great, but if you want extreme privacy swap to graphene with a compatible phone.
The big change needed is dropping google play services and gapps, without those you're well into the clear.
Graphene! thank you.
I was trying to remember that one. Checking it out as well. I'll probably play with Graphene first then. Thanks!
I would appreciate this greatly. And I know the cell phone will be the hardest part. Iphones are too walled in and that leaves android/Google based smartphones if you want cutting-edge.
Yes please!
Pls. Ty.
Do it!
yes, please
and, thank you
Yes
YES PLEASE. Amen
Please share. Thabk you.

Hello, coming up soon the new privacy win page will be opened up. I am a moderator over there. We would love this informing on that forum.
yes
I'm at a loss as how to keep a smartphone.
thats happening in part one -- its not that hard.
remove google accounts, swap to using fdroid and aurora for app downloads, replace google apps with alternative options, and most importantly:
STOP RELYING ON SMARTPHONES.
Yes please!
Yes.

already posted part 1 https://thedonald.win/p/11RhFaFj1R/take-the-country-back--starting-/
Yes; dm
I just posted the first in the series https://thedonald.win/p/11RhFaFj1R/ ;)
I've been setting up Nextcloud (Google Drive, Docs, Slides, Sheets, and Hangouts replacement), Pihole, VPN, etc. on a box at home over the summer. If you need help, let me know :)
(Docker makes it easy, once you know how to use Docker)
I run a nextcloud instance as well, and I'm 100% going to be putting this into the "advanced" teir of stuff people can do, along with graphene/lineage on android and a few other high-level tweaks.
Might be worth including: you could buy a domain name (like, I don't know, "trumpsupportingfamily.com" (or whatever) (there are some free TLDs but I don't know if I want to use them: .tk, .ml come to mind)).
You could then use Cloudflare (they have a free plan) to act as your DNS servers so your IP isn't exposed, and you can encrypt traffic to and from Cloudflare so that your ISP (if you're hosting from home) can't see what's going on. (look up Authenticated Origin Pulls.) Cloudflare can handle SSL for you too, but the issue is that you have to trust Cloudflare with your data (they could theoretically spy on you, but td.win trusts Cloudflare so I suppose I'm fine with it? I don't know.)
Then use
nginxfor a reverse proxy and you're all setComment so I may find this again later

There's part 1 ;)

Yes. I use DuckDuckGo and just signed up for Parler but have a Gmail account, Facebook, LinkedIn, all of that... and a regular droid phone.
Starters
Duckduckgo.com - search
Brave - browser
VPN - One that doesn't keep logs
Yes, please and thank you very much.
