That's not it. A lot of Trump supporters didn't even know about the Rally nor was there really any build up for it. Most people are followers and kind of go with the flow. These big rallies you see tend to happen because people talk to their friends and spread the word. It's on TV and there's promoters who go around promoting the event etc... It's well planned out in advance. Trump's rally was not promoted in the same way and people are socializing at an all time low right now meaning the energy required to convince a lot of average normies to go isn't there.
republicans tend to leave everything up to being organic - we naively think that protesting, voting, setting the culture is just a numbers game. The dems cultivate, they ballot harvest, they promote, the community organize, etc. They wag the dog. The dems are playing sabermetrics any we are Roy Hobbs.
What's that rally for? If you really want to scare someone, use guns. 5m vs 10m people is meaningless if both crowds end up doing nothing anyway. You could have had 0 people and it'd have made the same difference.
