Except they then go after their hosting providers. If that doesn't work, then after the payment providers. If that doesn't work, they DDoS you into oblivion.
There should have been legislative action to protect people, but because that would protect unpopular opinions, the legislator will never move to that end.
Make no mistake. If they can deplatform and deperson Trump, you and I have literally no hope.
But that's partially because of the user base being willing enough to stick with Gab and go to extraordinary lengths to keep Gab going. People mail Andrew checks, for example!
Maybe that's where this is heading. We're going back to the days of "send your check or money order to..."
There are some solutions based on IPFS but the latency makes it untenable.
Decentralization solves part of the problem space, but there's a significant issue with scalability that can't be resolved due to the nature of the Internet.
Ironically there was, and Republicans (Trump and his POS FCC chair Ajit Pai in particular) torpedoed it. Net neutrality might have offered some protection to websites like this. Now all it would take is Comcast and Verizon saying "Nope" to decapitate this site permanently.
You understand Net Neutrality wasn't what it purported to be, right? I supported it initially until I read some of the proposed rules and a bunch of perspectives on what could be done.
It's like the "Federalists" claiming that title even though they were Authoritarians in actuality. The True Federalists, the ones that actually wanted federated states, independent states that came to together for certain limited functions, got branded Anti-Federalists.
ISPs aren't going to do that. But I'll save it for my last paragraph and humor you. Mostly this is just a rehash of what u/littleman said 3 days ago.
ISPs are run by telecomm companies now, and those are under Title II, so whatever net neutrality was supposed to do wouldn't have really changed much but it would've migrated significant control under the purview of the government. The hundred or so pages in the federal register on it were absolutely filled with stupid bullshit.
The only way to fix this would be to target these organizations as monopolies or use anti-trust legislation to corral them. You can't easily make your own payment provider unless you have hundreds of millions (or billions) of dollars, so being deplatformed by one means that your options are exceedingly limited.
If you argued for regulating them as utilities, I'd be all for it, but right now the ISPs don't give two shits about traffic that flows through their pipes.
The other side of the coin is that even if the ISPs did try to stop people from visiting TDW, they can easily be circumvented via a VPN. If they try to stop VPNs, then you can use WireGuard on a cheap VPS somewhere to build your own. There's really not much they can do.
I wish I could force others off it. I haven't used any in quite a while, but there's still a very good 'ghost' of me since most of my friends use it to some degree. They just can't/won't let it go, even after acknowledging that is not making their lives better in any measurable way
There wont be anywhere safe or anywhere to hide in due time when evil tyrants are ruling the country. After digital is purged they will destroy your real life financially through your jobs and ability to function in life.
Facebook and Twitter and Shopify have deplatformed the current leader of the free world.
What hope do the rest of us plebs have?
Move to alternative tech, forget about all of these massive platforms. Don't bother spending your money with them.
It's a good idea.

'just start your own bank'
You forgot one word:
"...bigot"
That's what they did to Gab and they did overcome it.
Yep, exactly.

The decentralized tech is almost good enough for all this.
It's slow.

What?!?!

fuck all
The free world is inside all of us, pede. Pray to God. Do what your conscience calls you to do.
Lin Wood predictions. If he's not as crazy as he seems.
he is. Listen to the audio recordings of him filed in lawsuits by his former associates.
You're talking about him saying he was the second coming?
I heard that one. Honestly it sounded like he was fucking with them. Trying to get into their heads.
