It's becoming a meme here that there will never be another fair election. If that's true then the right set of actions are beyond the scope of discussion for this forum. I think it is worth reexamining this idea though, because there are some political actions we can be taking that have a chance of working.
State legislatures control election processes per the constitution. That hasn't changed. They have been asleep at the wheel, but that can absolutely change. Nothing about losing control of the federal government has changed this.
We need to be going after these positions. State lawmakers are nobody. They have smaller constituencies than your local dog catcher and turnout for their elections is minimal. We can pressure and if needed replace these guys. Even election fraud only goes so far. THIS should be the entire initial focus of the new party we are about to found.
Our demands there are simple:
- No more electronic voting machines.
- No more no-excuse mail in voting.
- Radical transparency increase -- cameras everywhere, better access for observers, etc.
- Better voter authentication. Voter ID, etc.
These things will be far far easier to get traction on when we are not in the middle of a highly visible presidential election.
For the doomers that say political action is impossible, I get it. I really do. Go do what you gotta do. For the rest of us, there is no reason not to try a multipronged approach here. It would be irresponsible of us not to fight in every way possible.
The next time you use a electronic voting machine,,, I suggest faint on and smash it to bits!
