The way I rationalized it .. Trump is a frankly a bit of a narcissist, he knew this would happen, he knows he has the people and military support, he has trump cards (executive order 2018), he knows the country he loves will be lost to domestic terrorists and foreign countries. He won't let China win. He won't give up.
