Grew up Baptist, our church disbanded so we went to a local Evangelical church for a few years, then went back to Baptist when we found a new Baptist church.
I read the Bible, studied other religions, and questioned it all. Drew the conclusion that many religions claim a one true god. They all have a book thousands of years old they claim is the one true word of god. They all have different sects within themselves that all claim to be the true interpretation of the bible. And when I've debated friends and family members their arguments just boil back down to "my book says it" or "i just feel it in my heart".
There were a few odd things in the bible. Like incest and the vivid description of someone being hung like a horse with large emissions. When bringing these up I get the response that it's the "old law" and that's what Jesus came for. But then being told to adhere to the 10 commandments, that they are still relevant despite being part of that "old law" part of the book.
This also shows what I'm talking about above that even within it's own religion there are different sects of the religion that interpret the bible differently, each claiming to be the correct one.
Would be nice if we're having coffee and having this discussion!
I'll be replying back later tonight! Have to run couple errands and pickup dog food lol
But I'll be back!
Not religious myself, used to be. I know many friends and family that vote on Religious lines. You said nothing offensive, no harm done.
Mind which religion and what made you an unbeliever? No need to answer if you don't want
