In the military, if you don’t make promotion lists at certain junctures in your career, you’re done. Whether or not you make said list depends on your boss’s completely subjective assessment of your performance. My boss was a toxic diversity hire and I knew from the day he took command that it was going to be a rough time for the unit so getting a pair of negative evals from him was kind of like having Paul Ryan tell you that you’re a failure.
I thought I’d be more angry or sad or something but truth be told I’m mostly just relieved. I didn’t want to fight for this new president or this congress and I don’t want to watch the organization I’ve devoted tens of thousands of hours of my life to slowly fall apart over the next decade and now I won’t have to.
So I guess I’ll just take my four deployments worth of combat experience, go back home, play with my kids and wait... for something.
GO TO THE CLINIC GET EVERY APPOINTMENT YOU CAN. HO TO BEHAVIORAL HEALTH! BITCH ABOUT ANYTHING THAT HURTS YOU . GET AS MANY WAIVERS AS YOU CAN.
don't let the VA fuck you when you apply for disability.
Get that disability rating even if your rated a 0 you still get a lot of benefits. Transition to civilian life is brutal.
This. I was in so much of a hurry to put the Army in the rearview that I walked away from some benefits that would have made the transition to civilian life a little easier.
VA isn't fucking people right now, at least based on my experience. I was getting out last spring (decided not to last minute and stayed in). They gave me pretty substantial disability check, and I'm a pretty healthy guy. The VA is a scam, I honestly couldn't believe it. I was expecting like 20%, 30% at the most and got 60%....
I'm not one of those scumbags that milk every little dollar to get a higher payment either. In fact I did the opposite and didn't claim a few things.
Get ready, because Harris is going to undo the VA accountability act because it was a "Trump thing" and she'll laugh about our vets being pegged harder than Big Mike pegged Obama.
totally understand. But there are alot of soldiers who don't go to the clinic. I am simply saying now is time to start documenting everything that has yet to be documented making his VA transition easier
