Better question is why Pence isn't doing it. If it is an image thing, MAGA people already hate him. There's no salvaging that. He'd have more luck investing in Dominion and appealing to the never Trumper Republicans, who would be happy if he removed Trump. So activating the 25th would, I would assume, protect him and the people he is clearly complicit with.

If the 25th amendment is invoked OR he is fully impeached, he cannot run again, THAT is what they are trying to do. Stop him from running in 2024.
