Random thought: Considering that the objections were often met with overwhelming failure with only 6 senators standing against certification and roughly 180 representatives, even if Pence took the alternate electors wouldn't the Senate and House have denied them?

There were no alternate electors. If you listened to the proceedings at the start of each state Pence would say something along the lines “this certificate is the only certificate from this state’.
