I’ve been wondering if the only good thing about this election result would be that COVID would suddenly become a very manageable problem. Keeping everything massively shut down is killing the economy and no president can govern or win approval when people are suffering.
My governor put us back on lockdown not long after the election. At first until Jan 4, then extended until Jan 11. I’m just waiting to see if there will be some miraculous new downturn in cases so he can decree things start opening up. And then, boom, suddenly it’s all due to Biden and the democrats that they economy is looking up and life is getting back to normal.
I do think there’s a good chance this strategy is gonna backfire on them. I live in a super solid blue area. People are terrified of this virus. I know people who have barely left their homes since last March. You can’t spend all that time convincing people that there’s a good chance they will catch it (and die, or spread it and kill people) if they dare to set foot in a restaurant or take a solo walk without a mask and then just pump out a few reports that say “oh hey, look it’s not as bad as we thought”.
It will be interesting to see them try to undo the paranoia they’ve instilled and/or enforce mandatory vaccinations on all the people I know who either just flat out didn’t vaccinated their kids or did it on a very delayed schedule.
