If it's more convenient for the people I know and love to use Facebook, I'll use Facebook. It's not justifiable for me to make everyone do what's convenient just to me if I care about their feelings.
Perhaps you can use your fleeing to another social media alternative as a way to have a conversation with your family about what FB really is.
I still don't understand why you cannot abandon facebook and still keep contact with your family, but what do I know. I grew up in an time when phones were still attached to the wall by a cord, if you wanted to find out how grandma was doing you gave her a call.
