I know someone (closely) who works there. The critical switches and servers were in the floors below street level, and the building had broken pipes in the basement leaking water, as well as broken pipes on the 4th floor. The fire department did cause more damage, but the worst of it and multiple days of equipment sitting in a flooded basement came from shattered pipes. Water damage was already an issue from broken pipes before the fire department did anything. BTW, in the early aerial videos of the building, you can see broken plumbing spraying water from the side of the building. It wasn't just internal.
Uh... duh? They had 5 feet of water in the basement. Wasn't a secret.
