Debating politics has gotten real interesting since i realized something recently.
Stop being "correct" when citing stats and sources. Get them slightly wrong, but when you say it, put an awkward amount of irony in the tone of your voice(hard to describe through text). Make your opponent KNOW that you're playing some game. Most of them WILL correct you, and state your position FOR YOU, and inadvertently prove your point FOR YOU(because they're afraid you'll come back with the typical 'AH-HA!!! YOU ARE WRONG IN THAT HISTORICAL KNOWLEDGE!!!!')
This is because they think you'll come in like a reddit sperg and say "ACKCHUALLY, SLAVERY HAS BEEN AROUND LONGER THAN AMERICAN HISTORY!!!"
Example:
Lefty: White people need to atone for slavery.
Me: Yeah, i actually agree(give odd grin in agreement) since we all know that slavery wasn't invented until American history, right? You wouldn't happen to know anyone ELSE who commits slavery would you?
Lefty: Ugh i mean, they never
Me: SO THEY DID!!!! And now why are we not asking those other people to atone for their slavery related sins?
I swear to god, if the other person knows you, you act squirrely enough to make them question motives(wait, i know him, he doesn't really think slavery was invented in america) and without fail nearly everytime it's worked and they look back baffled at how confusing the whole mess is.
Idk, this is a post I've meant to make for a while now. I figure some of us gotta be looking for ANYTHING else to talk about than recent events.
Yeah, this has been a Trump tactic since day one. Why do you think the covfefe meme lives on?
