Matrix is good for irc-like chatrooms. Signal is a great SMS/MMS replacement. Both are open source with the app and server code. They're going to be monitoring open unencrypted communications for hot words that will flag you for surveillance. Stay safe pedes. We don't know what's coming.

True that nothing is 100% safe. But that would require a ton of work and processing power to crack each message. It would at least stop an automated bot from detecting a certain word or phrase and flagging you for further surveillance.
