They didn't perceive the government they created as some kind of sanctimonious symbol of freedom to be worshipped by the people. They knew that all governments sucked, and that ours would one day suck. And once the government had inevitably overstepped it's bounds and declared powers for itself without our consent, we had not just the right, but the obligation and duty to overthrow it and start fresh.
