Bernie Sanders is an Independent.

Edit: in some states it is 'unaffiliated', 'No Party', or 'unenrolled'

Edit 2: Some of you think voting matters. I don't. Some of you think the republican party can be commandeered. I don't.

Deregistering from the republican party is at a minimum about SENDING A MESSAGE.

Also, I recommend doing your best vetting regardless of party affiliation. Most politicians are in it for themselves; its difficult to see on the surface whether or not they're genuinely interested in what matters most, our Bill of Rights. Do they adhere and can we get them to pledge to protect the fundamentals?
