We're talking about the petty squad here. They were always going to impeach him even after a second term was over. Whenever they got both houses back, the plan was always to impeach Trump at some point in the future, even when he's no longer president. You just watch. They'll impeach him retroactively.

They can impeach any president retroactively, which means they can do so even after he is out of office, and impose penalties like making him ineligible to run again. Since they stole the Senate, they can do this within days after starting an impeachment, with zero debate. They'll do it soo fast that Republicans who object won't really have time to even complain. Remember, rules for thee. They will not play fair. Republicans will complain and say "This is wrong, wtf", and Democrats won't listen, and then it'll be done and over with.
The best thing Republicans can do, is all resign. Let Democrats own the house and senate and presidency with no one to offset the blame on, no one to blame for obstruction, no one to blame for anything. They did a coup. They stole every branch of government, and Republicans will be a useless minority anyways. The only real way to victory is for Republicans to resign and allow the dictators to be seen as dictators. All Republicans resigning is the only way we convey the true gravity of what Democrats have done.

When they impeach Trump (whether now or after Jan 20), he becomes ineligible to hold any future federal office. If they do and the election somehow gets overtruned down the road (it won't), Pence will become President (since Trump will be barred from office).

To be fair, if you are successfully removed from office, it prevents you from holding office again. So I can see how that might be the justification since so many doomers are talking about 2024.

Why would the uniparty want Donald Trump to not be eligible for office again when so many people are saying "we'll get them back in 2024!"? Because then he couldn't run for office again, and it would poison him as a consultant or cabinet member.

The only possible reason I can think of the impeach him beyond the obvious, he's still a threat, is that if they did so then the Senate can ban him from holding Federal office ever again which would eliminate a 2024 run etc. However, if that was the point/goal they could do that any time over the next three years. As far as I know you can be impeached even when not in office.

So if you are not in office you can not be impeached. Thus when Nixon resigned impeachment came to grinding halt because he was no longer POTUS. Then his pardon made further criminal pursuits pointless.
To sum up there is a very real possible goal in impeaching Trump over the next two weeks. If they could complete the process even if it only cut short his term by a few days the Senate could add on to the removal from office the optional sentence of not allowing Trump to ever hold Federal office again. That would effectively neutralize Trump as a direct threat. Although it seems to me Trump could use Jr(or a few others) as a proxy and still make their life hell.
I'm not sure if they could complete an impeachment in just 12 days though. If they swear Biden in and its not completed then I don't think it would be binding even if they completed it after the change. He's no longer POTUS. The constitution is specific. (Article II, Section 4)

Stop reaching...the impeachment would permanently prevent Trump from running for office at any time in the future. This is the only reason...there is no Kraken, no Insurrection Act is coming, no declassification of secrets to take down a cabal. It's over...every domino of the plan has fallen silently yet people keep moving the goal post with stupid "it's part of the plan, trust the plan" after every failure of the plan.
