All oppressive regimes eventually fall apart. Why? Because the smartest and most hard working won't tolerate it and will simply leave if they don't have opportunity to thrive. It's a classic case of "brain drain".
We've already seen this with China. They were forced to relax their communist practices, otherwise the entire country would still be composed of peasant farmers. Other nations, who also want the best and brightest, follow suit. In a sense, it becomes a competition between nations on who can attract these people, and the best way to do this is to have as few restrictions on business and lifestyle as possible.
You can already see this happening among the states themselves. NY has been highly restrictive with their lockdowns. FL has not. Not surprisingly, many left NY and moved to FL. NY's leaders will have no choice but to ease their restrictions, otherwise the economy of the entire state will collapse.
So the more corrupt and compromised the US becomes, the less attractive it will be, to both foreigners and nationals.
