Being proud of your heritage is what it should be. Black people who are descendants of slaves should be proud of being African Americans. Not proud of being black. I 100% agree.
I agree, or I wouldn't be here. As I said, I'm proud of where I came from AND where my family ended up. I'm proud of being Scottish and I'm proud of being American.
The fact is that all of our problems as a society began when the melting pot became a salad. When we decided that assimilation wasn't the goal. Time was that you came here, added your flavor to the pot and became integrated into the whole.
Now you're allowed to stick an anchovy into a fruit salad. And it doesn't work because the premise is flawed.
This isn't the best medium for communicating such complex thoughts. I bet if we sat down and hashed it out over a drink you'd find our views are more similar than you probably first thought :P
I grew up in a really diverse area and it felt really colorblind when we were kids and honestly I just miss it. People are so obsessed with race these days. It used to be that we were all proud as Americans and proud of where we came from. Proud of our differences and proud of our shared heritage. Now people are only proud of where they came from (unless they are white) and being American is bad. It's a sad state of affairs. And that's how people like me (who used to be pretty liberal) end up here.
I just said that.

This hyphenated American shit is part of the problem.
You are American first or not.

This post made more sense than your other ones I commented on. You still have some contradictions there though.

Or we could all just be proud to be American.
You can't have both?
I have never heard a black person proud of being African. Its always they're proud of "the black beautiful being they are".
If I were to say I'm proud of my brown tan skin (I am white/native american) and id be called white supremicist.
Shit have you realized all these amazing, black people..
Are all married to white people. Let that sit in. Is it because they feel dominance dating a white person or do they hate their own race?
Makes ya wonder.
