Asking for a Fren and that friend is I.
TDW only thing keeping any positivity about any of this. I feel like it is so fucking clear what is going on and yet NO ONE else seems to see it. We are being demonized right now and mark my words, our days on the internet in the open are numbered.
Any recommendations for secure and untraceable means of staying connected with the community?
VPN recommendation? Privacy hardware and software?
Any answer will be appreciated.
Watch your six and stay frosty bois!
Use Brave for your browser and maybe Waterfox as a backup for compatibility issues. Protonmail for email (unless you can find something better). Elon Musk just recommended Signal for messaging software.
Get off Google. Use Qwant and maybe DuckDuckGo for searches. Get rid of your smart phone and use a burner flip phone.
You can keep your smartphone, you just have to be smarter than it. And vigilant. If you have a smart TV, you're being spied upon. If you have an echo or Google home, you're being spied upon.
For your phone, get some Faraday bags to put it in when you need to talk about sensitive things.
Get some ham radios, don't get a ham license if you'll only use it in a shtf scenario. No one cares about licensing then. And if they do, pay the fine and move along. They'll need to find you first.
Bike rides or walks through the woods with no personal electronics is the only safe option.
I hope the OP reads this right here. I know there are miniature HAM radios you can pick up for relatively cheap that are listen-only as well. Faraday bags are a must have, as well, if you want to have a smartphone from the major manufacturers or uses a major os like android or iphone.
Just remember to take it out of the bag sometimes or it won't get calls and texts!
In regards to Ham licenses/fines. Yes there are fines for operating without a license, but in an emergency situation anyone can transmit to ensure safety of life and property. Really the fines arent going to happen unless you are regularly causing a disturbance or putting out a shit ton of RF. Jim and Joe talking on VHF ham band with out a license arent going to get in any trouble at all especially if no repeater is involved.
Very true. But if you're gojng to use them often may as well get the license. If not, it's one less government registration.
Yeah, a lot of the practical knowledge is good to know and understand.
