Also, if the bullet hit her vertebre, wouldn't that paralyze her from the neck down? She holds her own pressure for a while before her hand falls away. Do you see any blood on her hand? Am I just being crazy?

I never studied anything beyond biology 101 in high school so I'm no expert but my understanding on spinal cord damage is that you don't always lose full control immediately. As the damaged area moves around more of the nerve connections get blocked or severed just by movement but also by bone fragments. Eventually the severely damaged areas die off and only the healthy parts above the damage remain operational. Whether full control is lost immediately depends whether it's a glancing blow or pinch to the cord or it's totally severed.
