Common sense is only common if everyone's definition of sense is the same. The problem with society is we once had an objective moral system that most people believed in. Common sense existed then because everyone was working from within the same system to come up with "common sense".
What has happened over the last century is that the value system in society has been subverted. Now common sense isn't common because everyone's moral value system is different.
This America you have come to love is an aberration of humanity. It takes so much effort to sustain such an aberration that eventually entropy blows it away as dust once the fundamentals of the free people have dissolved and corruption takes over.
Slavery is the default in this world, and it's because people are greedy and lazy. The original sin is based in greed, and therefore we get all of the punishments for our greed and selfishness. And the punishments from our parents' sin because they failed to raise us right.
Jesus is foretold to come one day and free all people from the physical chains of this world. But for now, he has given us the key to free ourselves from the mental chains of this world. When the day comes when he unlocks your cuffs, you better be ready to run towards him completely. If you stop to look back when he frees you, the door may close and you will be stuck as a slave for eternity. TBH, I don't know what happens when he frees you from your physical chains, so maybe you get a minute to consider whether you want to leave the plantation of Earth and join him. Maybe you don't.
But also, in the meantime, Jesus speaks to us through the Bible. It's how he gave us the key to break our mental chains. It literally explains everything. Like Morpheus giving you the blue and red pill. The Bible breaks the matrix. And he wants us to break each other's chains.
I understand what you mean. The "it's not my problem, we're not going to focus on the events of today" church is exactly why we are in this place in the first place. Real issues are going on in the world and churches want to pray and preach about topical issues so tthey don't make waves. I've been praying that the Lord would bring revival to our country and the American church, and more importantly that he'd have mercy on us. I wonder if this is His divine judgement to hand us and our country over to our sin. It's a terrifying thought, and we have to cling to our ultimate hope in the promise of Jesus Christ, that why we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Wow. Solid. It's a real struggle to keep an eternal perspective. I know American politics are important, but I also know it's not ultimate, and it's hard to focus on the eternal when the temporal is trying to fuck your shit up.
