How a professional aviator would have handled it:
"Good afternoon passengers, this is your pilot. I've been made aware of a bit of boisterous behavior. At this time I request you hold off on chanting and other loud activities as we have other passengers and professionals who may be distracted by it. I ask that you extend such a courtesy for the benefit of the flight crew as well. Thank you for flying with us, as your pilot, the safety of the plane and every passenger is my top priority. Please enjoy the rest of the flight. Thank you."
A pilot who has to issue a threat over the intercom when the situation isn't threatening seems to not have a good temperament. Pilots need to maintain their cool under pressure. They can't get cocked up by chanting.
Yesterday afternoon at Regan airport, at the gate next to ours, the police went on the plane, that had just boarded, and removed everyone from the plane, and walked a couple off in cuffs. The patriots on the plane were singing Star Spangled Banner, and United Airlines said it was an "Anti-American threat." People at our gate witnessed it, so our plane didn't sing it until about 10 minutes before landing.
The pilot could have joined in on the chant for 2-3 minutes over the loud speaker and that would have been the end of it. He chose a different flight plan.
Don't make me crash this plane!
