Unfortunately, you're right. Many states have "at will" policies, giving them the power to fire you for no reason. It never hurts to speak with a lawyer though, just to see if you do have any legal recourse.
"At will" isn't really 'at will.' There are hundreds of things an employer can do during the course of employment that negate their ability to fire 'at will.'
