You're not wrong. They are scared shitless. They know there are far more of us than them. So they are trying to use this "opportunity" to ostracize and demoralize us in an attempt to temper our rage. Social media and cancellation are currently the only meaningful methods of control they have (for now). It's a threat. "You act out of line and we will come fore you."
The only question remaining being is the genie already out of the bottle. Has the public woken up enough to say "not today." That remains to be seen.
