Just got an email from our principal on how to talk to our students about the “crisis” in our nation’s capital this past week.
I took my time thinking of a response. I started with saying that we came back in September with a focus on the BLM message being an excuse for their violence and that we needed to accept that. (Note: Since Returning from the summer break we’ve had a few webinars/faculty meetings about racial injustice, inequality and white privilege. Apparently In racist without even actively being racist). So my response continued.
I asked that we should focus on why these people are frustrated and not the “violence” that occurred for about an hour. I also noted that we may have a few students that share the frustration of those at the capital and they should have a voice in our community.
I was basically told that right now wouldn’t be a good time. That was followed by a Biden quote to end the response.
So it looks like this is my last year teaching here in NYC. Maybe change careers for good. I’m not sure I want to deal with this BS anymore. I’d quit now but I have a family dependent on my salary and benefits.
Thanks tolerant left. You took my love for teaching these kids and destroyed it. Just like everything else you touch.
Wow, I used to live in NYC. You must be a literal saint to teach there.
