My grandparents, on that side over there, came here to America to be free, met each other and fell in love. Every time I feel like this is all too much, I think, Grandma and Grandpa did not get up and leave to take a boat to get to these shores to have children who would have grandchildren who would one day live as slaves. It cannot be. That cannot be the story of my family.
