As my name suggests, I am Dutch. This entire election charade has been so sickening. The demonization of conservatives and the censoring of those with conservative ideals looks like some Venezuelan bullshit to me. I never expected this to happen to you guys. I fear for what might come next in Europe as well. We usually follow the US and I don't like that idea at this moment. I sincerely hope there's still something GEOTUS can do to turn this around...

Same shit has been happening right next door to you for years.
It has but he's not wrong, it'll embolden them. Up until now there's always been the threat that the US is still free and might swat them down, and that illusion was fine as long as our troops weren't being sent over there to actually have to fight.
Lots of Europeans don't realize the EU has 'cheated' many votes. Not by altering the numbers, though they may well have added that to their repertoire, but by forcing re-votes or outright ignoring the results.
There was a treaty in Ireland, I can't remember if it was the Lisbon treaty or one before (the Lisbon one definitely got voted on multiple times at least), the EU made the Irish vote on it again and again and again, I think upwards of ten times in total, until they finally got the resulted they wanted. And they used all the same claims as with Brexit that Irish didn't understand what they were voting against and blahblahblah.
France and Holland rejected the 2005 French European Constitution, what did their governments do? They repacked it as the Lisbon treaty and had their parliaments vote on it, unsurprisingly they voted yes. No referendum that time.
Many in the EU are too young to remember all this bs, same problem as in the US and elsewhere in that regard. I only know all this (and even much of US history) because I'm fortunate enough to know plenty of politically astute older people. Like in school they taught us Islamic terrorists have hardly killed anyone in the US because they always pick after 9/11 as the start date for this fact, for some arbitrary and inexplicable reason. This kind of exception was never made for any other group in any other history we were taught about, only 9/11.
spez: Misread your comment. Mine is more meant towards anyone who doesn't grasp the situation in the EU, American or European, I am sure you're well aware lol.
I'm not and can confirm everything you said.
One of the things I see that is so common in America is they think despite everything that has happened here that the EU is somehow more tyrannical, it is not the case now. The EU is bad for sure but rigged elections just aren't anything like as bad as here, not even close. Same with the corruption, sure it exists in the EU bigly but America is far more corrupt, Europeans also protest far more than Americans.
I lived in China for a while, America is so similar it is deeply concerning, it works differently in China but all the same control systems are here they just work in a different way.
I can't speak for the rest of Europe but when I looked into the Swedish elections it was definitely rigged against the Sweden Democrats. I doubt they would've won overall since Sweden strikes me as very brainwashed, but still, the impression I get is Europe may not be as terrible as people here make it out, but I do think Europe is going down a much worse track than its citizens (and especially European millennials) realize.
All the European millennials I have had contact with think the EU is great, see nothing wrong with legislating every aspect of everyone's lives and don't think any western government is corrupt, even the US one. I can forgive them on the last point because they don't live in the US, but the rest tells me the EU is going under too, albeit in a bit of a different way to the US, more quietly.
