You can get the app by searching for the .apk file itself, in your favorite search engine.

(For now) androids allow you to install apps that didn't come from the play store.

Yeah as a tech worker this is how we test apps internally before releasing them on the store. You have to modify your settings to allow 'third-party' or 'unknown' apps (depending on your version of Android) before hand though.

This is also how adult-content apps bypass big tech censorship. Ditch Apple!

Yep, they're rotten to the Apple-core. Probably because there's a thirsty tree or something.

Yea, let’s ditch Apple and go to the good guys, Google!

The_Almighty_Kek 8 points ago +9 / -1

Far too late did we ditch both and make the move to Microso...oh...

I get that you are being sarcastic, but in a sense Google is definitely the better alternative because they don't make money from Android itself, which is open source, but rather from the bundled Google apps and the Play Store. Therefore they cannot stop you from installing 3rd party apps via the .apk file method and if they tried people would simply fork Android and everybody would switch to that.

I've never liked Apple because they prefer complete control over their customers while Google gives their users more freedom to make their own choices.

I thought Apple might have a touch of dignity when they didn't play ball with the FBI. Oh well, someone posted about a third party OS that works fairly well with modern devices. I'll have to dig that up.

Android is open source and it already has a very popular fork with Amazon's Fire OS. There is no reason to use anything other than Android. Google makes no money from Android itself (only via the bundled Google apps including the Play Store), and they cannot stop you from installing 3rd party apps using the .apk method. Even though Google is just as evil as Apple, they at least give you freedom to do what you want with the OS they helped create.

No way I want a Google Android phone again. I keep my IPhone clean using basic apps and no social media. I only use PC browsers with Ublock Origin installed to do any social media, which for now is just TDW.

Apple fell to radical left tech hipsterism a decade before goolag, and they've only gotten more entrenched with the 3-letter agencies. It doesn't help that apple's entire premise behind their UX is "WE are going to tell the users, who we own, what they're allowed to do with our product we just sold them for >$900".

PLEASE -

Don't just randomly search an APK for android from some unknown host... get it direct from the front page (very bottom) parler.com

https://company.parler.com/android/parler-release.apk

Yep. They're rotten to the Appel core.

Thank you, I didn't know this. I switched from apple in March. Love my galaxy.

Also a Samsung user. Make sure to allow app installation from unknown sources in the settings.

No thanks. I’ve had Android. Too many hidden settings, and it’s google. I would literally delete apps, and they’d show up again. Apple is best for me. Never updated to the covid update also. My Apple maps never shut down in DC because of it (me thinks)

adameverton 1 point ago +1 / -0

Some Android phones are customized to disallow uninstallation of certain apps, but there are still ways to delete all the app data and disable the apps so they don't show up. Apple totally controls you and your experience. You are forced to use the apps they approve and they can remove apps from your phone that they don't like. Android cannot do this because it's open source. Also Google makes no money from Android itself, only from their bundled apps (including and especially the Google Play Store).

I'm not trying to tell you what to do, if you want to continue to live in smart phone prison be my guest. Maybe the prison guards will nice to you. But if you value the freedom to use your phone how you would like and continue to have access to all the popular apps then Android is the only choice.

Meh. I do my best to not have apps in general. Too many privacy violations they hide in terms and conditions. I use good old fashioned internet browsers ☺️

That Elop thing... Nokia was the pride of Finland. I always thought that the government should have had a team capture Elop and just torture him for years. He destroyed the most notable Finnish company.

The license is officially not for sale in the US, but you can purchase it over a VPN

How does that work with my U.S. carrier, then (e.g. Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, etc.)? Like I can just buy a phone that works on their network, wipe it and install Sailfish X on it, and the telephony will still work (i.e. can still make and receive calls, send texts, access 4G LTE / 5G / whatever)?

Is it compatible with my Xiaomi Mi4i?

Dark5580 19 points ago +19 / -0

I mean thats not really all that feasible. Android is an open source operating system. You can make a custom os with it.

100 this. Vanilla Android can be locked but just buy a unlocked phone and install a distro. Time we all started to understand the tech we use everyday.

Squeaker 5 points ago +5 / -0

Not a techie so forgive me here for my lack of knowledge, but is there any way to take our current phone and completely remove the Google overlords from it?

I have an old note 4 and galaxy s7. Gonna do this, thanks.

2
indigo_truther 2 points ago +2 / -0

Can they not require companies to use Google/Apple libraries?

2
Dark5580 2 points ago +2 / -0

Google uses the os, not the other way around iirc. Manufacturers of phones can of course mess with the os themselves to prevent apks and stuff like that from being installed but once its your property you can just put a new custom os on it and be done with it.

infeststation 2 points ago +2 / -0

Android is open source software and doesn't have any Google services built in. Google takes that Android and builds all their apps on top of that. If you install something like grapheneOS, none of that shit is included. You won't have access to the play store and some of their apps won't work even if you sideloaded them (because you don't have Google services installed).

I’m in the process of looking to get a new phone in the future. And I would love to buy a phone made in the USA. However the specs of this phone aren’t too great for the price 😔

prospektor 1 point ago +1 / -0

However the specs of this phone aren’t too great for the price In the end, it's hard to compete with Chyna (and in extension, companies who let their shit get manufactured there). Freedom comes at a price. Just like globalism is destroying our nations, and globalism isn't much more than hyper-capitalism.

Pixel + grapheneOS

randomusers239874 0 points ago +1 / -1

It's the first version, so it's definitely a "hobbyist" level device. With that said, the more people that buy, the cheaper each new version will become.

1
NEATO 1 point ago +1 / -0

You can side load apps on iOS too.

5
XithePooh 5 points ago +5 / -0

Or just download another store app like aptoide.

1
Donarudo_Taranpu 1 point ago +1 / -0

Another store app?

2
defroach84 2 points ago +2 / -0

Yes! There are alternative app stores you can setup on your Android phone so you do not need to use Google's play store to find and install apps.

5
UpTrump 5 points ago +6 / -1

Damn, they're even going to lock down apks. What has America come to

3
Brulz_Lulz 3 points ago +3 / -0

Donuts not technically noff the store. They just hidbit. In that case, I wonder what their justification is for doing that?
