I just received a message for an iPhone update. I would advise against installing it if you don't have too. Tech is not on our side. You might call me paranoid, but I like to think of myself of being cautions and prudent.

Yes, ubuntu is safe. Manjaro Linux too. PureOS is good too.

As a Manjaro user: Do not use Manjaro unless you are already familiar with Linux. Manjaro is a lot nicer than Arch but favors new software over stability and relying on the AUR is spotty at best. I love it but I'm also very experienced.

If you are just entering the fold start with a Debian based system like Mint or Ubuntu (which is far and away the most popular entry point). They are a lot softer around the edges, more stable and have way more community support. See the options at https://distrowatch.com/.
