I just received a message for an iPhone update. I would advise against installing it if you don't have too. Tech is not on our side. You might call me paranoid, but I like to think of myself of being cautions and prudent.

Uh, what a strange timeframe, would be good to monitor if google does the same, and for both, to download and reverse the update to see which kind of bloatware they injected in

Plus "it's not because you're naturally paranoid that they're not after you".
They say updates are to help your security. I don't trust it. I have third party apps that are just as good as anything Apple updates to. Haven't updated in months and no attacks or viruses or anything.
