I have always wanted an open, albeit far more encrypted, internet. Hiding ideas and scientific developments behind national borders will slow and stagnate human advancement. The only people this will benefit from a fragmented internet are other totalitarians who would benefit from having central control over their nation's communications.

Although I wouldn't blame a country if they did develop their own, the internationalist regime seems to have central control over all major US social media communications.
