The prayer of the humble pierces the clouds, and it will not rest until it reaches its goal; it will not desist until the Most High responds and does justice for the righteous, and executes judgment. (Sirach 35)
Eternal Father, hear now the humble petition of Your children. The failings of our nation, its leaders, and its people are many. We ask Your pardon and mercy, and to look not on our iniquities but on the faith of Your servants. Your only Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, suffered and died for us. For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, O God, have mercy on us!
O God, King of the Universe, we know that we have no power of our own, and that America enjoys its many blessings only because it has pleased You to bestow them upon us. We have no help but Your Providence, and no hope but our trust in You.
O God, our Strong Deliverer, rescue America from those who seek to weaken and destroy it. Deliver our nation from those who do not honor Your name, who scorn Your Commandments, and who seek to turn hearts away from You. Make the light of Your face to shine upon us, and turn this election into an instrument through which Your greater glory is worked.
In this, as in all things, we entrust ourselves entirely to Your plan, we submit ourselves wholly to Your will, because we trust in You and know that You desire only what is good for us.
These things we humbly ask in the most exalted name of Your beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
No shame in that! The Lord's Prayer is a powerful one -- that's why Christ taught it to us! It encompasses three of the four types of prayer: adoration, contrition, and petition (the missing one is thanksgiving).
In fact, the Lord's Prayer covers an item of great importance that many forget in their prayers: "THY WILL BE DONE".
The Most High, in His omniscience, already knows what is best for us. If we truly want good things for ourselves, we must set aside our own desires and ideas of what ought to be, and instead want what God wants. It's okay to pray for what we desire, but we must always acknowledge that God's designs for us are far greater than anything our feeble imaginations can conceive of.
God is the Eternal Father, and we are his helpless, clueless children. God loves it when we acknowledge that fact and surrender to Him, because it is an invitation for Him do what a father does -- provide the best for His children!
That is why Christ said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."
That is why Christ said, "Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven."
Thanks for this, pede. I grew up without a church background (we were Chinese immigrants), and now I'm a uber liberal city and don't trust most of the churches here. I'm severely lacking in good religious education and hope to remedy that as soon as we get out of this city (or online if you can think of any good websites).
For whatever help it may give you on your journey towards eternal life, I'm a lifelong Catholic. Many have criticized the Church -- and some of those criticisms are fair -- but the Church is more than the priests and bishops in its hierarchy. If anything, that's a minor feature.
If you're looking for a home, every Catholic parish has a program called RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults). It's mainly informational about what the Catholic Church actually believes and teaches, and you're not required to make any kind of commitment at all if you want to attend.
I'm not going to be pushy and urge you to go, I just want to make you aware that you have the option. I don't have the power to change hearts, that belongs to Him alone.
In any case, may the Lord bless you abundantly and grant you all the graces you need to become more pleasing to Him.
It’s short for centipedes; it’s from an old old meme about centipedes being the deadliest predator. I have no idea why we all use it, I don’t even remember the meme.
Yes. I now pray every single day.
Lord, it is written:

Wow, I've just been reciting the Lord's prayer over and over again. Thank you for this.

Thanks for the suggestion, I will check it out! May the Lord bless you abundantly as well.
What does PEDES mean?! I keep seeing it

It's based on the song "Centipede" by Knife Party, which was used as the background track for the "Can't Stump the Trump!" videos on YouTube.

Thanks for this! Learned something else new today.
