Big Tech isn't doing this to silence those that aren't on the left. That's not possible, as there are too many alternate outlets that are uncontrollable. There are also too many of us. 75+ million people voted for Trump, yet Big Tech would make it seem as if said supporters are fringe violent radicals when they're literally over half the population. It's gas lighting at such a large proportion that it's comical and so obviously contrary to the actual truth.

Given this, my theory is they intentionally want to have easy, efficient labels for the citizens, while simultaneously dividing us from our neighbors and communities. They're even trying to rip our families apart--how many of us have lost our best friends and have strained our relationships with those we love over our political leanings? Creating this schism makes us easier to predict and control.

My theory is that the purge is to isolate us and put us in echo chambers that amplify extreme views on both the right and the left. War is good for them. Conflict is good for them. Division is good for them. Brainwashing the populace into two predictable view points is good for them. Don't take the bait. Be vigilant, be kind, and love thy neighbor. Being angry is understandable... just don't buy into the "left/right" paradigm that this system to desperately wants to uphold for its own gain.

It's really hard when everyone else has been taking the bait on the other side for decades and has nothing but contempt for me.

I know I'm not the only one who keeps quiet and takes the abuse--as friends say horrible things about Trump supporters while not knowing they're talking about you.

That really adds up over time. And many of us are reaching the end of the rope after 6 years.

I hear you. I'm surrounded by Biden voters. They were actually Sanders supporters which made it a little easier to break down, "you know how they stole the vote from him and gave it to Clinton? Imagine that in 2020, times 50." Nonetheless we had to ban politics (and the coronavirus) to make it through Christmas. I know my post has terrible timing but I also think it's crucial to call out what I see as an obvious strategy to further their aims at everyone's expense.

Interesting theory. Big tech has put a lot of money into researching how to “solve” echo chamber induced extremism. I suppose that same knowledge can be used to create problems too.

That's on par with all of the politicians and their "anti human trafficking" organizations... all of which traffic humans. It really is amazing how they have such precise figures of trafficked children in both dollars and numbers, isn't it? For a market that's allegedly opaque, their clarity is astounding.

I have every reason to think such "anti echo chamber" studies are used much the same way.

Fair assumption. Nobody would be ok with funding evil activities but they’ll gladly fund research which can be misused.

It’s like the study on search engine manipulation and election results that was research for a new “service”. Once you prove search manipulation can shift popular opinion you have a way to monetize psyop mercenary work.

You do know those sites didn't always exist, right?

I don't think the tech giants were so naive to assume such alternatives wouldn't crop up in light of their censorship. Facebook, for ex, studied and knew a long time ago that putting alerts on conspiracy-related content only amplified it.
