I understand that popular culture and changing “national conversations” could possibly result in creating terrorism trends of these sorts. But it seems just as likely that the hypothetical hidden Authoritarian part of the govt would have an interest in preparing for their future creeping. They might be inclined to stage events that would make domestic terrorism become very unpopular with the vast majority of Americans. That’s certainly how it turned out after OKC. It’s been a while since I read about the case, but I recall most authors writing about it put a suspicious amount of emphasis on the point that TM failed to eliminate a significant amount of govt officials from the organizations he was primarily targeting (ATF or CIA?), and that he primarily killed people and destroyed facilities belonging to the more “honest / innocent” organizations like the Dept. of Transportation or something like that. Not to mention the infamous point about the Daycare and children that got killed.
I won’t speculate about what he could have done better, for obvious reasons. But I will say it seems almost certain that if he wasn’t a Brownshirt, he could have made a better plan that ensured far less “collateral” damage, and would make the public reception to his deeds at least marginally more favorable. Killing children and “nonviolent” fed workers comes off a lot worse with the public, than if his attack were carefully and exclusively directed towards ATF personnel, and other organizations that have a reputation for unjustly harming people, enforcing BS authoritarian/unconstitutional laws, and generally causing trouble or detracting from the greatness of our country.
There was a documentary on that premise made years ago titled 'A Noble Lie' that made a very convincing argument. Mostly just by showing how massively the local newscasts differed from the national news on the day it happened. I was hopping for some sort of organized military move to keep the current administration in office. If there was truly fraud (and there was), then have the conviction to 'hold that line'. All legal avenues were pursued, they were given a chance to do right thing - they failed to adhere to the letter of the constitution (then the administration does not get to assume office). If Trump 'truly' wanted an insurrection, all he would've had to do is simply give the word - and that Capitol would not be standing today! Trump has been very clear from the start, that he will pursue every legal path -even strongly affirming in an interview weeks before Jan 6th- would move forward with transition of power.
