Take any windows pc, install ubuntu, it can be installed together with windows, you will choose which os on boot time from a menu. Do it now, it is easy.

Not sure - go on youtube, search for ubuntu, kubuntu, mint, fedora - any will do, they are easier than windows now

Take any windows pc

That means Microsoft still gets paid, and still gets to dictate the hardware.

install ubuntu

I use Arch btw 🤓

(I prefer FreeBSD, but it has significant battery life issues on my laptop.)

Even better to just have Windows in a VM.

go on youtube, search for

See how addicted to Google / YouTube we all are...

They are the fucking enemy, and we can't stop using them...

It does not matter. If anyone has a windows machine, they can switch NOW. like in several hours, for the zero cost.

PopOS is by far one of the best Linux distros as of late, it’s simple and fast. Ubuntu had some Amazon data partnership, this a while ago and I don’t remember what it was, but I didn’t like it being integrated into the OS.

Ubuntu / PopOS is the default choice for many. It works well, but not as fast as Clear Linux (according to Phoronix benchmarks), and I find Arch package management a lot better.

With Ubuntu-based distros I often had to install stuff from heck-knows-where. With Arch pacman / yay can install everything in one command. I mean EVERYTHING!

If performance and battery life weren't an issue I'd use BSD.

As a long time linux mint user, I support your post

I left Intel for AMD after their deepstate backdoor fuckery and spectre / meltdown

I still have taiwanese parts but Taiwan is gooboi (ASUS)

memory and the rest of it is made in usa

micron / crucial is a very good USA brand...memory and ssd's

Only use open source, I recommend

  • quiterss
  • audacity
  • geany
  • gimp
  • inkscape
  • vlc
  • lbry
  • brave (you have to do a LOT to lock it down brave://flags, basically disable all remote crap, webassembly, webrtc, spellcheck, safety url checks...)
  • bleachbit
  • clamav
  • veracrypt
  • libreoffice
  • meld
  • okular
  • parcellite
  • redshift
  • transmission-qt WITH...
  • cpulimit
  • ufw
  • blender
  • bless
  • gnome maps

I use copyfree software whenever possible.

The only GUI apps I use regularly are Brave, Gimp, and MPV (more light-weight than VLC).

I'd love to but my job I need to keep for 5 more years until I retire requires Windoze. It's a Windoze world and hard to escape it totally. Sure in my Private life it's easier, but then I still need access.... on a Windoze machine to do my job. Argh

I think "diverse" means both vim and emacs users. 🤓

Mandatory corporatebabble these days for any major business.

But they were among the first to sell decent Linux laptops, and they make an effort to move as much work to the US as possible.
