exactly, he gave them space; but i'm sure he never gave them even 60% trust, he learned how to understand at first sight who he can and cannot trust, just that, he's smart, doesn't let them understand that, goes along and act as if everything was normal
I believe he trust in human.. he just gave them a chance to do the right thing..
