I also think they were aware the Iranians were in the process of taking action on those claims and Pelosi and others were aware. That is why she wanted the Military to restrict the President from using the Nuclear codes. A lot we are not aware about and way more than trespassing on the People's property.

Something tells me that somebody within the United States government gave them the idea that he would be dead. Iran's leaders were wanting to capitalize on it and insinuate to their people that they were the ones who did it. In no real world would the Iranians be able to get to trump.
