As a kid I didn't understand what the Scottish Lords in Braveheart actually were or what they were arguing about. They seemed like just random men in a building. I didn't understand that they were literal sellouts to the English king who gave them land and title in Scotland to collect taxes, recruit armies, and implement his foreign rule. As a child I didn't understand that this kind of thing actually happened in the real world. Re-watching as an adult was a different experience! It reminded me of the Republican congress.

If you haven't watched it since childhood, I heartily recommend you do so.

Also...movies have changed. Braveheart's tone and pacing are so different to movies today.
