I think he discovered that the military refused to back him. Mattis put his traitors in place while he was incharge. Trump didn't have a leg to stand on. Pence was probably backstabbing him the whole time.

He was never a military man, the officer corps of the military doesn't respect and love him enough to rise up in his name.
