Pre-2000 is teh life

Remember rotten.com, napster, lemonparty.org, limewire, and meatspin.com? Original internet was best internet. My generation laid the foundation the internet was built upon, gore, piracy, and horrifying joke sites with naked geriatrics and indefinitely spinning cocks.

GermanTrumpFan 3 points ago +3 / -0

Yes those were the days. When you inflicted trauma on yourself without understanding what the fuck you were doing."HOLY SHIT WHAT THE FUCK OH MY GOD JESUS!!!!" * click * "OH NO FUCK HOLY CRAP NO WAY!" * click * "JESUS FUCKIN....."

Prodigy discussion boards and you had a lost of ftp sites that you could hop in to. Then the Golden age where it was geocities and mirc. You had bookmarks to hotbot, Lycost, excite and a dozen other search engines to use. Your fingers were a blur from typing in the 500 websites that even existed. There were no yexh giants. No control. The wild west.

Something shifted in the cosmos when the year 2000 began. The world has been fucked up ever since.

Zuckerberg was developing the college Facebook platform. It went from student to public in 2006

3
VoltronGreen1981 3 points ago +3 / -0

So funny cuz I hated the 90's for the most part while I was living during that time, but now it doesn't seem nearly as bad.

1
Scroon 1 point ago +1 / -0

Same for me in the 80s. Now I know it was the best time.

Omg, yes. I understand why licenses are there, but it doesn't feel right having to pay to enjoy the outdoors.

Because it isn’t right...

1
borscht-nazi 1 point ago +2 / -1

Yeah, I live by the river and fishing here is more complicated than getting a DL.

18
20KAG20 18 points ago +18 / -0

Only problem now is that the communists are taking over the country and will eventually stop you from fishing.

17
Block_Helen 17 points ago +17 / -0

If anyone thinks that's a joke, common folk can't fish in Cuba. The fish are state property.

8
Omnes_Omnibus 8 points ago +8 / -0

The problem is the same as with politics. You may not care about big tech, but big tech cares about you. If you don't stay involved you won't be able to just go fishing. Try ignoring a murderer or rapist and see how that goes.

4
ThemWVHills [S] 4 points ago +4 / -0

I’m not saying ignore the murderer or rapist. Know who they are do your best to avoid them. If they come a knocking deal with them.

As MEN we have to stop treating our phones like teenage girls. We are the MEN, the leaders, the teachers, protectors. We need to get our mind, body and souls ready.

3
Omnes_Omnibus 3 points ago +3 / -0

I'm not attacking you - I agree with you 100%.

We have to make sure we have a life outside of the internet.

We have to not let them control us through addiction to their tools.

We have to maintain a healthy connection to the land, our country, nature, and REALITY.

BUT - we also have to make sure we defend all borders, including digital ones, and all entry points of power.

Not mutually exclusive, I'm still with you.

Gen X pede here. Growing up in the 80s and 90's we didn't have smart phones and PS4's. The internet wasn't a thing when I was a kid. We played outside, rode our bikes without helmets and without fear. We stayed out all night long on Halloween filling our pillow cases with candy (without parents lingering 10' behind us) and the world was a much different place. It was better. I miss life before the world wide web. OP is absolutely correct. 100%

4
Block_Helen 4 points ago +4 / -0

Same age as you and yes. I am profoundly grateful for not growing up digital.

1
GermanTrumpFan 1 point ago +1 / -0

I grew up in the 90s. The internet got me when I was a teen. Yes, I've spent more time outside in my first 10 years of life than the rest of my life combined. I'm kidding. Sort of.

2
Masjosh 2 points ago +2 / -0

Good ole dial up aol

3
GermanTrumpFan 3 points ago +3 / -0

Yeah and jpgs loading in for 10 seconds. Member the screaming exorcist girl. Everyone had to suffer through that for a while. Youtube has gotten so compromized since then. Member when it was still amateurs uploading 144p videos. It was the wild west back then. Them days. Them days I say.

3
Masjosh 3 points ago +3 / -0

Holy shit i forgot about the exorcist girl!! Yes that was the jump scare of all jump scares!!

Meet people in the real world. Keep in touch with them.

Your cell phone is the easiest way to be tracked.

7
ThemWVHills [S] 7 points ago +7 / -0

I agree. I have been training myself to leave it at home. I survived the first 25 years of my life fine with out it. Next step may be always leaving smart phone at home and only carrying burner phone.

This photo reminds me of all the fish I used to not catch and beers I still drank before big tech.

3
MTZink 3 points ago +3 / -0

"Hang up and live" would be my bumper sticker if people weren't too busy texting to notice.

3
Block_Helen 3 points ago +3 / -0

I have a flip phone for that very reason. But rn I need to close this laptop and live. So thanks for the reminder. :)

2
ThemWVHills [S] 2 points ago +2 / -0

3

2
Testosteroneape2000 2 points ago +2 / -0

Way ahead of you. I haven’t had a phone in 5 years.

2
GermanTrumpFan 2 points ago +2 / -0

Yeah but fishing is kind of boring compared to MAKING HISTORY

2
Dialectic 2 points ago +2 / -0

I don’t care about beating big tech as much as I care about the nation-ending treason that just occurred in dc wherein they completed a coup against the president, stole 20 million votes, and murdered one of us

Getting off social media is only part of the solution.

To beat big tech will require local community groups. Stay engaged with your community.

2
muppeton 2 points ago +2 / -0

Kinda hard to do atm as long as these lockdowns are in effect. I think it was part of the plan to push more people into more dependency on tech since you're not allowed to do anything else.

2
jetjetjet 2 points ago +2 / -0

The way to beat big tech is by learning how ****ing git works

2
TwitterIsTrash 2 points ago +2 / -0

True, but I also feel the need to stay educated and aware of what they’re doing so they can’t lie to me anymore. More like keep big tech websites off your phone, and make sure to take breaks.

Boycott any company who purchases ads from Google, Twitter, Reddit. Do not purchase any ads from silicon valley if you have a business, buy ads from smaller sites or sponsor conservative influencers.

2
2DutchBus 2 points ago +2 / -0

Agreed. You can social media via a PC. Also I am family are going flip phone and $15 via T-mobile Connect per line. I am open to other choices as well for those in the know on disconnecting.

Not sure about anyone else but my phone has been giving me constant headaches. I turn off the 4g and it goes away. Almost feel like I'm being targeted. Woke up on January 7th with a lipoma in my forehead! Crazy times.

1
FTG2020 1 point ago +1 / -0

This is saying -- i cant win at the game so I am going home. Whether you like or not, we live it a tech society. At this point theres no going back. This is how ideas are being spread and more and more how business is done. This is why the left is so dominant because they realized this about Hollywood and the realized this about the internet before the right side did or thought it was worth capitalizing on.

I use my phone to keep in touch with my parents, as an alarm clock, and to listen to music. That's the only purpose it serves.

2
ThemWVHills [S] 2 points ago +2 / -0

That’s what you use it for. How is it using you?

I am by no means judging because I have become far too reliant on a device.

1
VoltronGreen1981 1 point ago +1 / -0

Not sure what you are asking. Rephrase please.

DELETE YOUR ACCOUNTS Then put your phone down.

2
Block_Helen 2 points ago +2 / -0

I'm conflicted about deleting accounts. That's what they want us to do. They want us silenced from their platforms.

1
Sick_of_the_bs 1 point ago +1 / -0

I understand that, but if you keep your accounts you're supporting their decisions. Hit them where it hurts, their wallets. If enough people leave, their stocks will plummet.

2
Block_Helen 2 points ago +2 / -0

They don't care about money. They are totally propped up. Leaving them is not a hit at all.

1
borscht-nazi 1 point ago +2 / -1

Yeah, quit fighting.
