Trump is the only person capable of leveraging this, the GOP has no appetite for winning. They never have. They were the party led by Romney, Ryan, and McCain. The last republican that new how to win was Newt Gingrich. He won the House from the D's for the first time in 60+ years during the midterms of Clinton's first term. And got Clinton to sign damn near every bill they put on his desk for the remainder of his time in office.
It's funny thinking about it now, but Bill Clinton in the 90's, if he were to be involved in politics today, not only would he not be welcome in the D party, but would be kicked out of the Republican party too for being too fringe-right. That's how far left our politics has drifted in a relatively short period of time.
