I love Apples ecosystem and even bought family members new iPhone this year. Was all excited. Now I am thinking about buying a Google phone and de-googling it. It don’t want to do all that though. Lose to many nice features. I don’t know what to do.
Personally, I've opted for Signal. Both are good but Signal seems to have more wide-spread encryption where telegram only encrypts specific things. Both are good however and it's pretty nitpicky. But, for me signal was the choice.
Signal is open source I believe. Probably my first choice. I think Snowden likes them as well.

For private communications signal. For open public channel - telegram, its easier.
