No matter what happens we can't let the bullshit break us down. We must improve, we must adapt, we must fight. This battle won't be won unless we're also winning on an individual level.

Hold the line there pede! You just need to make it 3 months!! It’s really hard. Try to not drink too! If you make it 3 months you’ll be good to go. First two weeks are hell. Don’t drink, that’s how you relapse. I’ve been done smoking for 7 years now! You can do it!

I haven't drank in years. Unfortunately even 1 beer or 1 shot gives me a migraine now regardless if I drink a gallon of water that day. Fuck do I wish I could drink again

Exactly. Also not just physically but psychological changes will be amazing too. If you can sit quietly and practice on your breathing when you are stressed and want a smoke, feel your body. If it feels bad man then focus on that. When the body is used to dopamine hits from gratuitous behavior it's hard to recognize that as a motivator for yourself. However I have found that instead of, say, eating something or picking up my phone to check TDW, instead I can just sit on the floor and feel it. Feel the lack of dopamine and how it is causing a lack of ease and comfort that I normally seek. Then I can embrace that lack of dopamine, that icky feeling, and realize that it is good and will pass. It is my body slowing down and healing itself.

Quitting smoking in 2015 was the best gift I ever gave to myself. I feel so much better now.

Keep going man! I quit 7 months ago, and then started a business and started working out and started scoring instruments on the cheap and teaching myself how to play

That reminds me. I got a bad ass acoustic electric guitar I bought years ago that I never did anything with.

Got any tips or advice? Or maybe just recap how you’ve been doing it? I’ve been trying to quit for the last 3 or 4 months with no success. Almost did right before the sixth, but had a moment of weakness

They did the same thing to vaping that they've done to Trump. Vaping works but it fucks with their Tobacco Settlement money, so it had to be destroyed. Nicotine is near harmless (the harm is in the smoke, nicotine only harms children/fetuses), vaping delivers nicotine like gum but in a way that almost immediately satisfies the feeling as well as the craving. All of the warnings you hear are BS (or are people trying to vape CBD oils and shit, regular vaping is harmless). I quit smoking (2pk/day~20yrs) 9 years ago, 5 minutes into trying a proper vape, and never looked back. Beware they try and offer 3mg or 6mg liquid to inspire failure, you need 24-30mg liquid to transition immediately.

ForwardObserverFIST1 2 points ago +2 / -0

Cutting nicotine all together is best but you should try tobacco free nicotine pouches. I like Zyn coffee or citrus in 6mg but there are many different brands available at gas stations.

I’m hooked on nicotine gum now, but at least I no longer smoke

YOU CAN DO IT! My last cigarette was on October 26, 2017. I never thought I could actually quit, but I did.

My biggest advice: quitting smoking (or sugar or any addiction) stirs up your emotions big time, but if you are willing to go deep into the center of those emotions and stare them directly in the eye until they pass over, you will win. They are just emotions. They will not kill you.

YOU CAN DO IT.

Find a really good reason to quit. For me, it was my kid. It’s easy once you commit. Just make sure you really care about that reason. No half ass shit. I smoked for 15 years, but the day my kid was born, I lost all desire to smoke. I don’t even get cravings anymore

Psyk0Tripp [S] 2 points ago +2 / -0

Only reason I got is adventures. I haven't had a life the last few years. Finally achieved being debt free and lost 85lbs by the end of 2020. Figured if I'm gonna go on adventures and get a hot new girlfriend, I gotta quit.

2

Never took up smoking. I recommend taking 2 of these before bed https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00QSR9D9I/ and getting a good nights sleep.

There is work to do when you wake up.

YOU CAN DO THIS!!! Listen, a craving only lasts for less than 5 minutes. If you can make it through those 5 minutes or so, it gets much easier until there aren't any more cravings. I used to take a straw and "smoke" it to help with the cravings. Good luck to you!

2
RealAozolai 2 points ago +2 / -0

Think that the cigarette is Obama soy cancer that’s trying to shrink your dick and make you feminine. Resist that shit at all costs and become healthier.

Dallasguy 1 point ago +1 / -0

I'm gonna share a secret for quitting: hate.

Nine dollars a fucking pack. More than half of it is taxes? Hate the government. Hate the tobacco companies.

That helped me a lot. 19.5 years smoke free.

1
Psyk0Tripp [S] 1 point ago +1 / -0

Unfortunately for me smoking paid for itself and then some at least in $.

It was the only reason I'd go on breaks. I'm a service worker who works alone. I'd bill for my breaks. Smoking actually made me money.

1
Dallasguy 1 point ago +1 / -0

You could bill for breaks and not smoke. X2 booster. You're welcome!

Yeah, my husband and I picked this month to try to start conceiving. So no drinks here! I feel the struggle.

Good job!! I found the nicotine gum good as a back up. I was a pack a day smoker and quit two years ago.

I’ve needed about 40 beers since January 6th, but haven’t had a single one. Hang in there.

1
borscht-nazi 1 point ago +2 / -1

Pipe. No more cigs and it's cheaper and doesn't fuck you up. Also, inhaling is what's bad. If you don't -- you are much better off, doesn't stink either.

1
Drinkup4 1 point ago +1 / -0

I picked a bad week to stop sniffing glue.

1
Aeneas_Troy 1 point ago +1 / -0

I also tried to quit smoking last week but could only do 2 days. It is really rough. I was also a meth addict and meth free for 6 years now. But I can't stop smoking cigs.

1
FuckYouAsWell 1 point ago +1 / -0

Hold out and on the future you can say, "if I made it through that without smoking, I can make it through this bullshit".

1
bluedevilga 1 point ago +1 / -0

I get it, I went keto and boy do I want to f****** drink, but that has carbs. S***. I'm down 12 lb in 2 weeks.

0
Psyk0Tripp [S] 0 points ago +1 / -1

Keep it up. I'm down 85lbs since May. Helps to have a smoker and stock up your fridge / freezer with smoked meats pre-portioned for a meal. Convenience is what made me eat out so I bypassed that and made my meals at home convenient.

1
bluedevilga 1 point ago +1 / -0

Good idea, thank you for the suggestion. Best of luck

exercise every single day. If you’re too out of shape to run, go for a walk. Push-ups, sit-ups. and trust me, no matter how good of shape you’re in or what you think of really fit people, we dread it everyday but absolutely love it afterwards.

some of the most inspirational shit I see is a fat person just trying to do it and struggling. Look up David Goggins. Dude is savage af

You can do it, friend! You will feel so much better when you're free of that nasty habit!

Outside of the health benefits and longer life, there are tons of pros to being a non smoker:

All smokers reek to non smokers. Most of us are just too polite to say anything. Won't it be nice to be good smelling to everyone and not make people want to get away from you???

No more stained fingers/yellow teeth/bad breath

No having to stand out in the cold to smoke if smoking isn't allowed indoors.

More $$$ from not buying cigarettes anymore. A fun idea would be to put the money you would spend on a new pack into a jar/separate account. When you've hit a smoke free milestone use the money to buy yourself a reward!

You can do it!!!!!! We all believe in you.
