I don't post here and am typically only a lurker but I think this needs to be said before the same mistakes are repeated.
Since the start of the TrumPurge of 2021, I am seeing tons of recommendations to use Parler or Gab or MeWe or whatever. None of these are viable because they all have the same point of weakness which is hosting providers such as Google, Microsoft, and Amazon. They can terminate the hosting of these services at any given minute without notice.
The ONLY viable option at this time is a decentralized option that is also verifiably cryptographically secure. You want to make sure it's not easily taken down and blocked. Youtube alternative would be PeerTube is an example. Off the top of my head I don't know what would work as an alternative to this site. I think Tor hosting should be very seriously considered.
I say this as a life long Conservative who's seeing the writing on the wall: our freedom is gone. The rest of the country voted for tyranny and now we have to make sure they don't silence us completely.
Gab owns their own servers.
Now I'm not tech savvy, so I'm not sure if that means the same thing as hosting providers????

Unfortunately their servers are most likely in a data center which is owned by someone else using an ISP to connect to the internet owned by someone else (AT&T, Comcast, etc). Unfortunately all susceptible to a single point of failure. Everything needs to be decentralized going forward and needs to be considered now.
I bet you can contact the people at GAB and share your concerns. I agree that this needs to be done!
